The banana tree in Wolf's beautiful yard was in flower. The purpley-red blossom is hanging down from the "hand" of bananas above it and is bigger than my hand.
Note the yellow pistils on the inside of the petal of the banana flower. Each of these will grow into a banana if it is pollinated. The Filipinos make a delicious salad from the banana flower.
The Gumamela (hibiscus in Hawaii) flower comes in many colors here in the Philippians.
This peach Gumamela with a bright red center is one of my favorite flowers here.Wolfs had several Gumamela bushes in their yard.
This darling nipa hut in Wolf's yard served as their guest house. The woven walls and grass roof, the floor raised off the ground on stilts, and outdoor porch were very representative of traditional Filipino homes. A family of eight might live in a house this size (about 8 X 8) with hammocks hung on the walls for sleeping, or just mats rolled out on the floor for sleeping. The animals
lived in the crawl space under the house.
