stolen wallet

August 2, 2011
Another first today! Daddy’s wallet was stolen while he was riding the jeepney. He was on his way to the bank to withdraw money for a dentist appointment and to pay for a box of our things to be mailed home. Luckily, it was before he got the money and not after. His wallet had between two and three thousand pesos in it which is between $40-$60. Whoever took it probably thought he’d discovered a gold mine. The wallet also contained my Visa card since Daddy’s broke a week ago, his temple recommend and a copy of his passport. Camille is calling the bank in the morning to get us some new credit cards, and she notified Visa on line that my card had been stolen so hopefully, the thief will not be able to use the Visa card at all. It was a very disappointing experience for Daddy. He said he didn’t know how the thief did it without him feeling a thing…But he thinks that two of them worked together, dropping a coin on the floor and telling Daddy it rolled under him. He may have bent over to look and that is when the one took it from his pocket he thinks. He met with President Mortimer to get a new recommend and President told him that he should not ride the jeepneys any more. That will really put a damper on what Daddy does. He was more upset about that than losing the money. We are touched that so many have offered to loan us money for whatever we need. We actually will be fine for a few weeks until our rent is due on the 17th. The Filipinos were worried that we would think less of them but I told them there are bad people everywhere and we have to judge people individually not as a whole group.
