Daddy suffered a little from withdrawal during the deer hunt week. He really appreciated the audio Jeff forwarded to him concerning the changes the Utah Fish and Game are considering. He sat and listened to it for more than an hour. It’s hard to imagine that October has come and gone. Without the colored leaves and cooler air, seasonal changes seem so far away. Interestingly enough when Daddy was watching the “Noah’s Ark” DVD, he saw that there were two female mule deer going up the ramp onto the ark; he remarked that was one way to keep them from procreating while they were on their voyage! I didn’t even notice!
The Friday before Halloween. we went grocery shopping at the Ayala Mall. Parents and costumed children filled the Mall; this is where all trick or treating is carried out. That Friday also happened to be payday. When we came out to catch a taxi, there were huge lines. WE stood for almost two hours with only two taxis stopping during that time; one of the young bishops and his wife, Bishop and Sister Nunez were by us. Finally Daddy suggested that one of the men should go to the biggest taxi stand and get a taxi and then come back and pick us all up—The Nunez’ were going to the Church at the Temple Complex, so Bishop Nunez left and 30 minutes later was back with a taxi for the four of us. We might still be standing there if he hadn’t gone. We will never visit the Mall on a payday Friday, especially just before Halloween. It was very frustrating!
The Apas Ward did have a trunk and treat activity in connection with their Broadway production night on Nov. 1st. Larry went shopping for more healthy treats than I had bought and came home with a huge sack full of small boxes of raisins and several kinds of individual packages of crackers and cookies. We gave these and the candy I had purchased. The kids loved it going from car to car in the Church parking lot! Following this, everyone gathered in the cultural hall for a delightful evening of music— The primary children dressed in darling, colorful costumes, danced and lip synced to “Under the Sea while the youth’s leaders of the various auxiliary organizations performed songs from Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, Mama Mia, Phantom of the Opera, and others . Laurisa sent me the music for Sunrise, Sunset and Do you Love Me? But we ended up singing just “Sunrise, Sunset”. Sister Jorgensen and I spent most of the morning Monday cutting and sewing Tevye style caps for the men and matching triangular head scarves for the women. I kept her sewing machine for a few days and have made Christmas pillow cases for our Filipino missionaries. It was fun to do a little sewing.

WE had candy, raisins and crackers left over so Tuesday morning, Nov. 2 , Larry took a big bag to Gina and Pablo’s four little children on the mountain in Guadalupe. He discovered the closest ward to them was the Capital Ward and so invited them to go to Church on Sunday, telling them he would come and take them to Church on the jeepney. When he and Elder Ganir were coming home they talked to a woman on the jeepney who had the missionary discussions years ago. She (Janet) said she’d really like to go to Church again, so Larry told her we’d come get her in a taxi and take her to Capital Ward, but when we went Sunday morning she was nowhere to be found. Larry stressed, thinking that we had missed her somehow. We had ridden in a taxi to the Catholic Church in Guadalupe where we were to pick Janet up and had the driver circle slowly around to no avail. So Larry got out to walk up to Gina and Pablo’s to get them and had the taxi driver take me back to the Church. (There were too many of them to ride in the taxi.) Larry wasn’t sure Pablo and Gina would even come, but they met him half way down the mountain all cleaned up; Pablo was wearing a white shirt and tie and the two girls’ hair was so cute with sectioned pony tail holders. The girls ran to Larry and hugged him around the knees. We had misunderstood what time the Church started so they were 45 minutes early! which made it hard for them to sit still through sacrament meeting. I had taken graham crackers I was going to give them after church, but ended up giving them during the meeting, and Larry found two pieces of paper for them to draw on. I realized I had not prepared very well. One good thing came from the meeting—the missionaries were able to meet them and set up an appointment to teach them. Larry gave the elders specific directions as to how to find the house and was pretty sure they would find it. Several ward members including the Bishop were very friendly with them; it was good that there were several temple workers in the ward so we could introduce them to a few of the people. Ganirs came to be with us after attending another ward in the morning. We have a new missionary van that Elder Ganir drives so he was able to take Gina and Pablo home—they stayed for most of Sunday School but then wanted to leave because they were hungry. And then Ganirs took us back to the Temple Complex. President Mortimer has asked Larry if he wanted to get a drivers license, but right now he has no desire.
A new store similar to Cosco opened this past week. Ganirs bought membership cards and have taken us twice. I found fresh cranberries and butterball turkeys for Thanksgiving. The temple does not close for Thanksgiving so we are celebrating on the Monday before. I will assign people the food to bring, but we bought turkeys because they are not always available. They were about $20 for a 10 pound turkey!
November 17I don’t think I have mailed this letter, so I will do so and then start a new one. When we get home, eat dinner, we just fall into bed and I don’t get the writing done I always plan to do. But know we love youLove, Mom& Dad/Grandma& Grandpa/ Mary & Larry .
